Electrochemistry Calculator (Nernst Equation)

⚡ What is Electrochemistry?

Electrochemistry studies the relationship between electricity and chemical reactions. The most important concept is the Nernst Equation, which allows us to calculate the actual cell potential under non-standard conditions.

⚖️ Nernst Equation

E = E° − (0.0591 / n) log(Q)

= Standard cell potential (V)
n = Number of electrons transferred
Q = Reaction quotient (products/reactants)

📘 Example

If E° = 1.10 V, n = 2, and Q = 10:
E = 1.10 − (0.0591/2) × log(10) = 1.070 V

✅ Why Use It?

  • Predicts cell potential in batteries and electrochemical cells.
  • Useful for understanding redox reactions.
  • Helps in designing fuel cells and corrosion studies.
